Jun 20 2008 By Andy Coleman Bon Jovi
AMERICAN rockers Bon Jovi are aiming to 'Wow' the Midlands with their Lost Highway gig at Coventry's Ricoh Arena on Tuesday.
"We're bringing a brand new production to Europe," says keyboard player David Bryan. "This time we have something new that's never been out there in the world yet. It's going to be pretty spectacular."
Guitarist Richie Sambora explains that the new stage set consists of a number of high definition screens.
"They come together, they move apart, they turn into a Venetian blind. It's pretty amazing. Everybody who has seen it so far goes 'Wow, how the heck did that happen?'"
Bon Jovi have worked hard to get where they are today, progressing from playing small clubs after forming in 1983 to selling over 120 million albums and performing at stadiums and arenas around the world.
"I think we enjoy playing the event- sized stuff now," says Richie. "Earlier on in our career, we played enough clubs to satisfy my desire to play smaller places.
"But it's always fun to mix it up, and throw a small place in there now and again. But we haven't really been doing that too much on this particular tour."
So how does the band manage to reach each and every fan in these vast venues?
Says David: "We always try to have a stage set with the largest screens and the clearest visual possible that brings you into the stage which makes it a little more appetising to a fan, even if they're sitting far away.
"There's just a wonderful spiritual feeling. Sitting there and feeling that energy when 80,000 people, sometimes more, sing - and are actually in tune as well.
"And just enjoying the moment for two to three hours, and getting away from whatever daily chores they have, and have some fun. It seems to really work for us." |
