Bon Jovi no-show on P.E.I. CHARLOTTETOWN - The good news is that it appears the federal government is giving thumbs-up to a major concert at Upton Farm later this year. The bad news for Bon Jovi fans is that the boys from New Jersey aren't coming. A source close to the issue said Bon Jovi was the front-runner for the concert but that the band has been booked on a European tour and won't be available for the Labour Day weekend. The concert promoter working with the city and the province on the concert has approached a number of bands and artists about the show. One of the problems has been the promoter hasn't been able to promise bands that he has a site ready to go. That issue appears to have been resolved. Gordon McIvor, vice-president of Canada Lands, the Crown corporation that owns the Upton Farm property, said they will be meeting with Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee within days to talk over the issue. Canada Lands has sent a formal letter to the city informing the corporation it is "very pleased" the Upton Farm Preservation Network will not be opposing the concert at the site. "It's our understanding the city is going to be receiving a similar letter from the province saying they support the idea of a concert on this site," McIvor said in an interview from Vancouver yesterday.
